This paper presents a proposed variant of differential evolution approach (DEA) for solving the optimal power flow (OPF) problem. The OPF aims to minimize/maximize certain objective functions while maintaining different equality and inequality constraints. The fuel cost minimization, power losses minimization, and voltage stability improvement are considered as the OPF objective functions. The proposed approach employs a proposed variant of DEA (DE/best/1) for solving the OPF. The proposed approach has a high capability of global search exploitation and fast convergence. The effectiveness of the proposed DEA is tested on the standard IEEE 30-bus test system and the West Delta region system (WDN) as a part of the Egyptian Unified network. The obtained numerical results by the proposed DEA are compared with other evolutionary methods to show its potential and capability

Recently, power system engineers have faced numerous difficulties in adding new power stations and transmission lines to face the continuous need of electrical power. In the future, superconducting generators (SCGs) are expected to be the most suitable solution for the previous problem. This paper presents the design and implementation of Posicast Input Command Shaping(PICS) which is combined with phase advance controller in the governor control loop for a SCG against infinite bus system. This is to improve the system performance, enhance its stability and reduce the exhibiting oscillations. To achieve a high degree of accuracy, a detailed non-linear system model is considered including SCG, governor, turbine, controllers, transmission lines and non-linear constrains. The performance of the SCG equipped with the phase advance controller has been studied and the results were obtained in a comparative form with others obtained when PICS is used under different faults (3-phase short circuit for 120ms and 10% step increase in the mechanical input) and over a wide range of operating conditions.

An analytical model with a new space vector pulse width modulation Voltage source inverter technique method of four-switch three-phase inverter (FSVPWM) feeding induction motor is presented. This paper presents a low cost inverter employing only four switches, four diodes and a split capacitor bank in the dc-link. This work is motivated by the need of an efficient and flexible modulation method, which is optimized with respect to minimum electrical motor torque. The proposed modulation strategy for the four-switch operation has the same symmetry as in a classical six-switches space vector pulse width modulation inverter (SSVPWM). The common mode voltage generated by the four-switch space vector pulse width modulation three-phase converter is evaluated and compared to that provided by the standard six-switch space vector pulse width modulation three-phase inverter. Simulation result are presented to demonstrate the feasibility of the proposed approach.

The goal of dynamic economic dispatch (DED) is to minimize the total operating cost of all committed generating units considering all physical and operational constraints. The DED problem is very complicated nonlinear optimization problem due to transmission losses, ramp-rate limits and valve-point effects constraints. Both bacterial foraging algorithm (BFA) and particle swarm optimization (PSO) methods have poor convergence characteristics. So, weighted PSO (WPSO) is employed to avoid the drawbacks of original PSO by employing the adaptive inertia weight factor. In this paper, modified BFA (MBFA) oriented with WPSO method is proposed by integrating MBFA and WPSO. By combining these two algorithms, the advantages of both of them can be extracted. This leads to get better solution of DED problem. Also, the diversity strategy is used in the proposed algorithm to solve the problem of early convergence. To prove the efficiency of the proposed method in solving the DED problem, different systems are employed. The obtained results prove the efficiency of the proposed method when comparing with other state of the art methods.

Air curtains are devices used in refrigerated display cabinets and the entrance of air conditioned spaces is aimed to reduce the breakthrough of heat, moisture and contaminants between the conditioned environment and the surrounding ambient, consequently reducing energy costs. The main objective of the present work is to study the parameter affecting the performance of air curtains used in viewer refrigerators using one and two air curtains at different ambient conditions, in order to reduce the air infiltration and consequently the energy consumption. The results of one and two air curtains are compared, where two air curtains are more effective than one air curtain

The air curtains are used as a seal to prevent the infiltration through display cabinets and consequently energy is decreased. The relative humidity plays an important role in cooling load of display cabinets. This work aims to present an experimental and numerical study of the influence of ambient relative humidity on the two air curtains in multi-deck display cabinet at different temperature and comparing the results with a single air curtain. For validation, the present work results are obtained by using computational fluid dynamics (CFD) code (Fluent6) and compared with previous researches.

The purpose of this research is to investigate rehabilitation of corrosion-damaged R.C. beams with carbon fiber reinforced polymer (CFRP) and glass fiber reinforced polymer (GFRP), the effects of CFRP and GFRP amounts on flexural behavior of the beams and summarize the results of a multi-phase experimental program to investigate the viability of using externally bonded fiber reinforced polymer (FRP) laminates to rehabilitate corrosion-damaged reinforced concrete beams. Twenty reinforced concrete test specimens (100 × 150 × 1200 mm) were constructed, ten of them were subjected to an aggressive environment for 13 month, The reinforcement of the four specimens was subjected to accelerated corrosion by means of impressed (D/C) current up to 5% mass loss, four specimens were not subjected to any corrosion and strengthen by the same schemes of repaired, and the remaining two specimens were not subjected to any corrosion and were not strengthened (control). After being corroded, the beams were repaired by externally epoxy bonding FRP laminates to the concrete surface using two different schemes. Half-cell potential have been measured as metric of performance of the samples. Strain gauges were used on the concrete and FRP laminates to measure strain on beams. The specimens were tested in flexure in a four-point bending system. The results showed that FRP laminates successfully confined the corrosion cracking and spalling due to expansion of corrosion products. The FRP strengthened and repaired beams exhibited increased stiffness and ultimate strength over the unstrengthened specimens. The use of FRP sheets for repairing corroded reinforced concrete beams is an efficient technique to maintain structural integrity and enhance the behavior of such beams

It is the process of achieving the sustainability of the current transport systems of the biggest challenges facing most major cities, to increase economic efficiency and social justice and environmental protection. Current transportation systems between supply and demand suffers from a large gap on the transport, which leads to a significant imbalance in the current transport systems. And show symptoms of this disorder is increasing transportation costs, especially for the poor, high accident rates on the roads, increase air pollution ...... etc. This paper aims to identify ways of activating the role of transport demand management in building a sustainable urban transport system ensures fast access, security, comfortable, affordable, high degree of reliability of the growing number of city dwellers various activities. The most important key points covered in this research in the factors that make up the mobility needs of urban areas, the demand for transport management properties, and transport demand management as part of sustainable urban transport system.
