The paper presents a new technique for the steady state performance analysis of the DFIG using Adaptive Neuro-Fuzzy Inference System (ANFIS). First, a mathematical model of DFIG in an appropriate d-q reference frame is established. The effect of the excitation voltage vector on the performance characteristics is illustrated to investigate simulations. A novel approach for the performance analysis of DFIG using ANFIS is employed for fast, accurate, and efficient methodology. The proposed ANFIS model has been trained off-line to predict the effect of excitation voltage magnitude, excitation voltage angle and speed on total output power of DFIG without overheating. The performance of the proposed scheme is investigated at different operating conditions. The simulation study indicates accuracy and effectiveness of the ANFIS based modeling of DFIG.

The remote photovoltaic systems needs a simple, cheap, remote monitoring and remotely controlling devices. Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition (SCADA) systems based on PLCs are very complex, lower reliability, and require developed electronic industry in order to produce sophisticated PLC's. Information Technology (IT) industry requires simpler, cheap, no restrictions on software or hardware SCADA systems. This paper presents a new generation of Remote Terminal Unit (RTU) for SCADA system based on microcontroller for customer side distribution automation system. We have a common trend of attempting to lower SCADA costs on RTU side. Our paper goals are to go to deep in lowering the cost of RTU unit, freeing the software so lowering system cost, and to expand the open source technology culture away from the restricted one of the large companies. A proposed microcontroller-based SCADA system with an open source software and graphical user interface is introduced in this paper. Our proposed system cost lowering efforts depending on the simple remote terminal unit (RTU), and an open source software. The system is modular where the main terminal unit (MTU) with a human machine interface (HMI) can access many RTUs that can plug and play. The proposed system is designed, implemented and gave excellent results in collecting data, transmitting, monitoring, and applying system control as well. One of the most appropriate applications for SCADA is the remote area photovoltaic standalone systems. The SCADA is used as monitoring, control and management system

PV energy is one of the most important renewable energies because it is clean, requires very little maintenance. However, the relatively high costs and low conversion efficiency are still the major challenge to a larger and faster spread of PV systems. Therefore, the maximum power point tracker (MPPT) is essential in a PV system for maximizing the conversion efficiency of the solar array. Because of the nonlinear behavior of PV systems, various techniques of MPPT are employed in order to continuously operate the PV array at their MPP despite the unavoidable changes in solar irradiance and temperature. This paper presents an assessment of five widely used MPPT techniques. These techniques are simulated in Matlab/Simulink environment in order to provide a comparison in terms of sensors required, ease of implementation, efficiency and the dynamic response of the PV system to variations in temperature and irradiance to determine appropriateness for the different applications of PV system. This can be used as a reference for future research related to PV power generation.

Brushless DC generator (BLDCG) is one of the most popular machines in variable speed drives. That is due to its numerous advantages which are high efficiency and power density, light weight, compact design and low maintenance. The most common applications, in which BLDCG has been employed, are wind energy and transportation systems. These applications have a main drawback that they are featured by large speed fluctuations accomplished by wind turbines and internal consumption engines. This speed variation results in changes in the BLDCG output voltage. This paper aims to maintain the generator output voltage at a constant level with variation of both load and prime mover speed. This is achieved using a simple closed loop control system including a variable reactor. This study belongs to vehicle application, since it is recommended to replace the brushed claw pole synchronous generatorby BLDCG. Throughout the present work, the mathematical model, along with a matlab/simulink program, have been developed and implemented for BLDCG system to predict its operating characteristics. An experimental setup has been built and tested for the sake of comparison. Good agreement between the theoretical and experimental results is obtained. This confirms the validity of the theoretical analysis. Moreover, good performance ofthe BLDCG with the proposed simple control method is obtainable.

In this paper, Adaptive gain scheme of Proportional-Integral (PI) controller to optimize the parameters of the PI for speed control of a universal motor is presented. The PI gains are allowed to vary on-line and automatically in order to avoid tedious task in manual control which eliminates the problems faced by the conventional PI controller. For conventional PI controller, the PI gains are optimized by trial and error method. In adaptive PI controller, their gains are allowed to vary on-line with motor speed and load variations. The performance of the presented controller is tested through a wide range of speeds as well as with load variations through simulation using MATLAB/SIMULINKand experimental results using DSP 1104. The simulation and experimental results show that the adaptive PI controller can be efficiently used for tuning parameters of the PI controller under distinct operation conditions.

Multilevel inverter technology has become the most appropriate utilization for high-power medium-voltage drives and transmissions. This paper includes a comparative analysis of the performance of 3-level and 5-level inverters connected to induction motor for power quality purposes. It's likely to show the benefits of increasing the number of levels in an inverter. A simple space vector modulation algorithm is used for this comparison. Thisalgorithm is applied to Cascaded Multilevel inverter topology. Power quality of these schemes can be enhanced by eliminating the noisy harmonics. In order to reduce the total harmonic distortion of the resulted voltage waveform a passive filter is carefully designed. In this paper, simulation results are carried out using Matlab/Simulink software environment.

Since it s evolution, Geotechnical engineering is considered one of the sciences that deeply based on uncertainties. These uncertainties are attributed to two facts. First fact, the formulas used in geotechnical engineering are empirical formulas and could be deeply affected by the nonhomogeneity of soil formation. The second fact is that always the soil is being characterizedthrough a group of boreholes that are considered representative for the whole site, which could result in the missing of some anomalies in soil composition. Hence, geo-technical engineers arealways looking for a technique, that can be used in dealing with these uncertainties. Several techniques were adopted starting from the sixties of the previous century like knowledge base expert systems, finite element analysis and finally geo-statistics. But the most sidelined of these techniques was geo-statistics due to several reasons. Hence, this paper tries to introduce geostatistics focusing on its applications in geotechnical engineering specially in soil profiling. It discusses the reason behind the fact that still the actual implementation of Geo-statistics in Geotechnical engineering is without real presence in the traditional work of any geotechnical engineer. Moreover, it introduces a look ahead towards actual implementation of Geo-statistics in soil profiling through the integration between one of the most mature geo-statistical software (Sgems) and the GIS software which is ARCGIS of ESRI

Maintenance of buildings is a crucial process that has a great impact on both buildings'performance and the efficiency of their embedded systems. However, the building maintenance industry in Egypt has long been an area of neglect, as most of buildings stakeholders restrict its role to the operation phase of the building. This attitude disregards the precautionary maintenance processes that could be achieved through the preliminary phases of the buildings. The main concern of this paper is suggesting specific guidelines that enable the integration of maintenance considerations into the whole life cycle of the buildings. The ultimate purpose is to achieve better performing buildings regarding maintenance aspects. The study sheds light on the major barriers of applying efficient maintenance, through the analysis of results extracted from focused interviewsthat targeted a number of general and maintenance managers in a number of selected buildings.Emphasis is made on the role and impact of maintenance considerations in guiding the decisionmaking process, as well as the lack of integrating maintenance into the whole building design process. This paper ends up with suggesting a framework that demonstrates the impact of integrating considerations of maintenance throughout the whole life cycle of the building.
