Early correlations of wall static pressure distribution along pipes, through which
a Newtonian fluid flows with-unguided vane generated-swirl component, have
been generalized. Generalization includes another - tangential tap generated -
swirl type in addition to fluids other than Newtonian. These correlations are of
great benefit for many applications provided knowledge of the fluid rheological
properties as well as the conventional friction factor correlations. An expression
for swirl number evaluation has been introduced in order to make use of the
available correlations. Application on non-Newtomian power law fluids has been
carried out and the correlation represented well the available experimental data
for both laminar and turbulent flow conditions. Application on drag reduction
flow, under conditions of maximum drag reduction, has shown that the
percentage drag reduction increases as the pipe length increases, i.e., as the swirl
intensity decreases.

In this paper, a novel speed control of a single phase induction motor is proposed using a
modified inverter. Three MOSFETs are used for controlling the flux linkage of a single
phase transformer, its secondary winding is connected in series with the motor. On-line
Bang-Bang speed control of motor scheme is implemented using a microprocessor to derive
the inverter. A mathematical model for the single-phase induction motor is presented, which
is used to build up a simulation program for a certain desired speed. Experimental results
have been carried out to investigate the motor performance with the controller. Good
agreement has been obtained between simulation and experimental results.

The objective of this study is to investigate the effect of the
geometry of the broad crested weir, (crest height, crest width,
top surface slope, top surface roughness, corners radius, and
crest contraction ratio ), on the predicted apron length (L) and
depth (D).
The experimental work has been carried out using a beech
models placed in an open rectangular flume under different
values of discharge. These models are divided to six categories
to study the effect of the aforementioned parameters. Also, one
model of cach category is built-up with the experimental
predicted apron dimensions and reexamined against the D.S.
scour at the same conditions.
From the experimental results of the present investigation ,it
is found that there is a general increase in the apron length

Former studies have been focused on switched reluctance machine as a motor.
This paper introduces an analytical and experimental study on a switched
reluctance generator. Two basic operating conditions namely, constant voltage
dc source and separately-excited generator with direct load have been
proposed and analytically investigated. An experimental study has been carried
out on the separately-excited condition and good matching has been obtained
between measured and corresponding analytical results. Specific characteristics
and suitable applications of this generating system have been discussed.

Developn~ent management of human settlements in developing countries
has gained planners' attention. Regional imbalances associate with urban
problems including environmental degradation, housing problems,
unen~ployment and the like. Different development approaches have
experienced limited effectiveness. The philosophical foundation of these
approaches and the decision-nlaking process are among the reasons for the
limited succcss. Today in the age of globalization, a new mode of capital
accunlulation associates with new modalities of thinking. This paper
presents the design of the project to articulate a Strategic Plan for the
Development of Human Settlements, South of Egypt, using post-modernist
p1,uming mode of thinking and a participatory decision-making process.
Postmodern planning en~phasizes a combination of instrumental and
communicative action directed by cmancipatoly interests where planning is
an enlightening social process. It offers a franlework that is suitable for the
dynamic nature of contemporary societal transfomiations. Postmodern
piamling offers new definitions for old problems thus presenting new
solutions that could be adequate in the coming millenium.

This work aims to determine the optimal hybrid of an autonomous
generation system of renewable energy sources (RESS) to supply an
isolated load. This system includes solar photovoltaic generators, wind-
generators and energy storage units. A technical and economical model is
introduced here to optimize the combined energy of this hybrid system.
This model depends on the hourly solar radiation, wind speed and the
load demand at the considered site, in addition to the economical
parameters and operational constraints of the aforementioned RESs.
The suggested model is applied numerically with the nonlinear
programming for planning photovoltaic and wind energy systems to
supply an isolated load in remote area of Egypt. Also, the capacity of
energy storage units to ensure the continuity of the power supply used is
determined and optimized by a load management technique. The
combined energy of this hybrid system is optimized from economical
point of view.
