In this paper, a novel intermediate lime regulator suitable for use as a current source converter is proposed. The operation principle of this converter is mainIy based on switched series inductor and i switched shunt capacitor. Thus, two semiconductor devices only are used for single-phase systems I i and six semiconductor devices for three-phase systems. This reduces switching losses and increases the effciency compared to !hat of previous topologies. The control strategy is built via i ! pulse width modulation technique accompanied by the control method used. In this study, two I different control methods, conventional PI and fuzzy logic, are tested and compared to select the i , preferable one. The simulation results of the proposed converter are presented based on i MATLABISIMULINK tools. Also, the results of the three-phase arrangement are shown with the simulated waveforms. In order to validate the converter operation, a laboratory prototype based on TMS320C31 digital signal processor has been designed and constructed. Experimental results for I dflerent cases are presented
