Metal matrix composites are an attractive choice for aerospace and automotive application because of their stiffness -to- weight ratio. Composites with aluminum and magnesium matrices have been investigated extensively, while less work has been carried out on copper matrix composites. In the present study powder metallurgy technique was used to prepare specimens of copper and copper alloy matrix (Cu-Sn- Pb-Zn) reinforced with SiC particulate. The effect of sintering temperature and volume fraction of Sic, particles on densification was investigated. Also, the effect of particle characteristic of Sic, reinforcement on mechanical properties and wear behavior under varying contact pressure and sliding speed by using pin -disc was carried out.
